Our History
The Group's association with shipping dates as far back as to the 18th Century when the Razak family owned and operated a sea-faring vessel. The founder of the Group, Al Haj Mohamed Abdul Razak had a strong association with the regional shipping organizations that led him to establish M.A. Razak & Company Limited in 1953, creating history by becoming the first locally owned shipping agency company in Ceylon (as Sri Lanka was then known). The initial agencies operated by the company were of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Pan Islamic Steam Ship Company Limited and Muhammedi Steamship Company Limited.
The Group's corporate voyage which spans nearly half a century, has been one of continuous progression. The Group has withstood the tides and gales of the industry and steered its way to its present position; that of a reputed and reliable organization. The number of agencies represented by the organization and its business operations have grown steadily, a manifestation of the strategic vision and direction of the management and commitment from a dedicated workforce.
